This "wasp-like" creature with a scorpion tail is carved in wood by Alistair using a variety of locally-sourced, found and recycled woods.

It is titled HI-MEMS #009537 and is approx. 7cm long.

These insect wood sculptures were inspired by research into creating insect/machine hybrid creatures for military use presently being conducted in the United States. The project is known by the acronym 'HI-MEMS' (Hybrid Insect Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), hence from where the title comes.
