This "locust-like critter" is carved in wood by Alistair and kept, for it's own safety, inside a glass dome.
It is carved from a variety of locally-sourced, found and recycled woods.

It is titled HI-MEMS #0076401 and is approx. 9cm long.

These insect wood sculptures were inspired by research into creating insect/machine hybrid creatures for military use presently being conducted in the United States. The project is known by the acronym 'HI-MEMS' (Hybrid Insect Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), hence from where the title comes.
