Elm-Ash Carver
Uprights: Elm from Bower Ashton
Crossmembers: Ash from Weston Big Wood
Seat: Woven Jute
Also avaialble - Dining Chair (without arms): £320
Barstool: £260
Tom chose to use cleft Ash for the crossmembers because of its extra strength. The frame uprights (and armrests where appropriate) are cut from a single Elm log - each item showing a different quarter profile of the same log. Visible through joints are very strong and made even more reliable here by drying the Ash to a greater degree than the Elm so that as the Elm continues to dry and shrink it tightens its grip on the Ash crossmembers.
The back supports are carved after assembly to suit most back shapes. This, together with the generously proportioned woven jute seats make these chairs very comfortable indeed.
No screws or nails are used in the construction of these pieces.
Finished with danish oil and beeswax
