Chair Restoration

The bedroom chair pictured above had been dropped, shattering the back. The upholstery on the back was removed and the woodwork re-glued and dowelled in stages. The frame was then waxed and the upholstery replaced. The picture below shows the condition it was in before restoration.

The oak dining chair shown in 'before' and 'after' states below had been stripped - causing the oak to become dry and brittle and resulting in the barley twist back breaking. The break had been repaired in the past but this had not lasted. Two new barley twist sections were first turned, and then hand carved to match the originals. They were then dowelled into the bottom section of the legs and the top rail. The chair was then waxed.
