MetaMarine Exhibition
9 - 31 October 2009
Grant Bradley Gallery
Bedminster
Organised by our very own master carver, Alistair Park, and featuring his intricate carvings alongside the work of several other Bristol artists, MetaMarine carries on where last year's highly succesful MetaInsecta left off.
Don't miss this!
"Last year, the Metainsecta exhibition in Bristol featured in Venue magazines review of the best local art events of 2008, with many of the pieces subsequently going on to be exhibited at the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery.
Following this success, the same group of artists return to take the plunge into the underwater world and look at oceans, real and imaginary, in MetaMarine. Once again, the natural history museum and the art gallery collide in a display of new work that may sometimes shock, hopefully delight but which will certainly surprise.
Expect perhaps to see a fabric turtle feast, a ferocious predator inspired by a whimsical early twentieth century French piano piece, sailing ships carrying very unusual cargoes, missing links in evolutionary lines that never were, a living fossil carved in wood, mermaids purses, beautiful portrayals of strange creatures living in the mysterious dark depths of the oceans, ceramic ghost-fish and 1950s film posters for monster films that were never made."
