Forest Schools

Forest Schools are an innovative educational approach to outdoor learning in a woodland environment. They have become increasingly popular, with many promoting the need for forest schools to become part of the national curriculum.

These educational experiences provide children and adults with a unique opportunity to explore woodland through play and activities that help reconnect us with the great outdoors.

Our members Touchwood Enterprises run forest schools as part of their design work with schools and communities across Bristol and beyond, whilst the Forest of Avon Trust also run forest school experiences and other related educational opportunities.

Community Design & Build

Our members often work alongside communities to create bespoke benches, sculptures and playstructures that help to define the public spaces that are so unique to each community.

We regularly encourage communities to participate in the design, and were possible, the creation of the wood products that we make for them.

For more information please see our member page below.

Workshops & Courses

Our members run a number of workshops and courses throughout the year in Bristol and further afield.

We do everything from green wood working to coppicing, organic charcoal making, woodcarving and more.

Upcoming opportunities are posted on our Events page.

Apprenticeships & Training

The Co-operative are committed to passing on woodworking skills, many of which are traditional ways of producing wood products, and producing employment opportunities where it can.

Touchwood Enterprises currently run work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for young people in conjunction with the Prince's Trust, at the Bower Ashton Woodyard in Bristol.

Nigel Howe is a training officer with the Oak Frame Training Forum which teaches people how to make traditional oak framed timber constructions, which he runs at the Chelvey Designer Maker Woodyard, just outside Bristol.
